Good lord Bosa, stop being amazing.

This song really gets me going. It's just composed well, mastered well, and good god, the strings are great. It really makes me envy your sample libraries, although I'm sure the composing skills have something to do with it as well. ;)

Bosa responds:

I'm nothing, papkee. I'm just blessed. Thank you for the review, as I appreciate your comments.

Well, I tend to have a soft spot for Piano. Let's review, shall we?

The intro was very composed, as was most of the song. However, and I'll get to this more in-depth later, the Piano simply lacked emotion. It was rather dull. Overall though, I did enjoy the beginning melody.

The main melody of the piano was rather, how should I say, bland. Throughout the song your piano lacked any variation in velocity or speed. It had a very computerized feel to it, and much of the composition of that main theme of the piano was lost due to the machine-gun effect of the piano. Try to add variations in the velocity and speed, or even better - get a MIDI keyboard and play it yourself. Trust me, there is no substitution for a real-life piano player.

Now, on to the climax of the song. Your other instruments also suffer from the "machine gun" problem, but they do also sound nice which does bring a little life back in to the song. Also in the climax there was some sort of buzzing or clicking going on. You may want to preview your songs more before you publish. Something always gets ya.

Overall though this song was not bad and DOES NOT deserve anything lower than a 3. However, it could also be improved greatly and there is a lot still to be worked on.

Sweet Jesus Bosa, you've done it again.

Great composition; the vocals just make the song.

I can see it transitioning into something very upbeat, somewhat like the opening theme of a movie, then transitioning into something darker, with heavy brass.

Really, you could make this into an entire movement if you wanted; adding more and more variations. I know I would if I had the time.

Overall though, you've blown me away once again.

5/5 from Patrick

Bosa responds:

That is definitely a good idea, Papkee. It is my style to go crazy with different variations and key changes, so you hit the nail on the head with this one. Thanks.

I do enjoy the melody on this one. Has almost a pirate feel to it. ;)

I do have a few nitpicks though.
-I think some reverb across the whole song would add a more "cinematic" quality to it. Orchestral Scores are recorded in halls and have plenty of reverb.
-Your strings seem to be from a synth, or not the best quality. I recommend Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra. It's the only free sample library you can get at it's quality.
-The song could use some mastering. Just a little, to balance everything out.

Otherwise you've got a very strong track.

Why have I never heard of Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra before? This is very good for free. Thanks for your feedback!

Nice song overall. Did indeed sound very Irish. And you get +1 for Tubular bells. Love 'em.

Yes, I did notice that they were sound fonts. They have that certain "same sample" feel that most do. Still, they were very well mixed. And I can definitely tell it was made for a game. It has sort of a Legend of Zelda feel to it.

But, you still get a 5/5 from me mostly because of the overall composition (and let's not forget those tubular bells) but also because I really enjoyed listening to it. I'm sure I'll be humming it all day tomorrow.

Cheers and Happy Songwriting,
Papkee

SkyeWint responds:

Heya! Thanks!

"And you get +1 for Tubular bells."
I don't use tubular bells that much, but yeah, they're definitely a really cool instrument. :P

"They have that certain "same sample" feel that most do."
True that, a lot of soundfonts have just a few samples - though actually, if you listen closely, most soundfonts are multiple samples, which is probably why the ones that have drumsets are larger than others (multiple samples for each drum - velocity changes). I try to vary the velocity on instruments along with adding in tiny trills so they sound more realistic than they would otherwise. :)

"I'm sure I'll be humming it all day tomorrow."
Catchy tune is catchy. ;)

Thanks, and the same to you!

Nice little song here. I can see why it's called techno; doesn't really fall under any other category.

I'll do I quick little review here.

PROS:
-The instruments used are quite interesting. Although I'm currently using my laptop's speakers, the sound still is quite interesting and melodic.
-The arrangement also gets a gold star. Althogh there's not too much variation, there's enough to keep the song alive and flowing.

CONS:
-I personally would like a little bit more melody. It could just be my classical background, but it seems like something is missing to hold the whole song together.

Other than that, there really isn't much else to complain about. The song really is quite solid. Keep up the good work!

Very neat little piece of music here. I've never really ventured into this type of electronica, but nonetheless I was entertained. Imma do a review like you do.

PROS:
-Bass: You ventured from a traditional single-note bass into something more organic and flowing. It fitted the rest of the song well.
-Melody: The ever-changing melody you wrote for this is remeniscent of more classical pieces and is another aspect of the song I quite like.

CONS:
-Mixing: The song clips in a few places and especially at the beginning. Just putting a limiter on the master is a quick way to fix this.
-Drums: The drums seemed a bit out of place in the song. Maybe use a quieter snare.

Overall, I quite like this little experiment of yours. Good job and props for plane-writing.

SkyeWint responds:

Hey there! Thanks for the review, with some feedback that can help! Also, I saw that you used my format. :D I use it mainly 'cause it gets the messages across and is really simple.

So, to respond to each point in turn...

"Bass"
I almost always do that, actually. I *really* don't like basslines that are just one or two notes. If you've heard any of my other songs, all of their basslines are constantly changing and more 'organic'.

"Melody"
...and I almost always do this too. I love variation. :P Also, interesting note that you probably noticed - the bassline is as much part of the melody as the other synths.

"Mixing"
Funnily enough, the clipping at the beginning is an issue with the FLS delay, I did something weird there and it didn't work. In the other places, yes, I agree. Also, I should try that out, putting a limiter on the master. I honestly haven't used limiters/compressors... well, pretty much ever. I NEED to learn about that. Also maybe a peak controller... Thanks for the reminder! :)

"Drums"
Hmm. You're not the first one to comment on that, as I'm sure you saw. Oh well. If you mean the quality of the drums, yes, I totally agree, they're not the best. I worked hard on the patterns though, and one ambient reverse cymbal thing that sounds kind of 'hissy'. Anyway. Yeah. I get what you're saying here, I could have quieted the snare, I suppose...

Overall. Thanks! :D Great review. Helpful. Straight. To-the-point. Me gusta.

See you around, and feel free to ask for more reviews on any of your songs as well!

Well, I like the idea, but I really don't know what you did here. All I heard was a language followed by Enigmatic Soul by Two Steps from Hell.

AxelFar responds:

Ops, i forgot to add the Two Steps from Hell credit, will do it now.
But it was that, i just mixed the two songs ^^.
Really bad of my part forgot it, Really thanks to remenber me.

I like the slide in this. Deviating from 2 counts is something I've always wanted to do, but never been able to pull off. I like this. Maybe adding a bit more variation would've been better?

It's got a good melody to it, but it needs some dynamics to give it that extra something. Youve done good so far, so keep up the good work.
